Hans Van Oosterhout

Hans Van Oosterhout started playing drums at the age of 7, after having experienced a concert by Huub Janssen and Johnny Meiers. Immediately after obtaining his diploma, he started his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Immediately after completing his studies in 1987, he was appointed as a senior lecturer in the drumming field. He is also a senior lecturer at it today Fontys conservatory in Tilburg.

Hans Van Oosterhout developed into a much sought-after drummer. During the 1990s he belonged to it quartet from Philip Catherine and the trio of Nathalie Loriers. As a member of the trio of Karel Boehlee he played with regularly Toots Thielemans. Hein van de Geyn got him as a member of his band Baseline, wherever he worked with John Abercrombie.

He also performed with Ralph Moore, Nat Adderley, Bob Malach, Viktor Lazlo, Rick Margitza, Denise Jannah, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Madeline Bell, Kenny Wheeler, Gary Burton, Benny Golson, Magic Malik, Red Holloway, James Moody, Nelson Veras, Harmen Fraanje, Jesse van Ruller, Deborah Brown, Dee Daniels, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Pete King, Richard Galliano, Chico Freeman, Lionel Loueke, Anne Ducros, David Sánchez, Johnny Griffin, Randy Brecker, John Scofield and Gino Vannelli.

In 1998 he was elected by the magazine Belgium Jazz Magazine to the best jazz drummer. He has played on more than 100 CD recordings as a sideman, including with Lee Konitz, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Dick de Graaf, Olivier Hutman, Bobby Watson, Ivan Paduart, Cor Bakker, Spike Robinson, David Linx, Mark Murphy, Jack from Poll, Michel Herr, Sal La Rocca and Vaya Con Dios.
