In 1960, Raymond Daveluy became the first Organist of Montreal’s St-Joseph’s Oratory when it installed the prestigious instrument constructed by German organ builder Rudolf von Beckerath. Daveluy has also given numerous recitals in Canada and abroad, having toured in Europe, Asia and the United States and sat on the juries of several international competitions: Munich (1971); Philadelphia (1977); St. Albans (1979, 1985); Chartres (1986 )

Throughout his career Mr. Daveluy was recognized and appreciated for ‘the clarity of his playing, the precision of his legato, the transparency of his contrapuntal passage work, his intelligent grasp of the various styles of the works in hand, and the musical scholarship revealed in his carefully chosen tempi and appropriate registers’. As a composer, in addition to his works for organ published by Editions Jacques Ostiguy, and performed in several countries, Raymond Daveluy has written many pieces for piano, an Organ Concerto, a Sonata for Organ and Trumpet, a Quintet for Piano and Strings, as well as several choral works. In addition to his career as a composer and organ virtuoso, Raymond Daveluy has been, until 1988, professor of organ and improvisation at the conservatories of Trois-Rivières and Montreal – both institutions of which he was also appointed Director; the former from 1970 to 1974 and the latter from 1974 to 1978. Daveluy has made several recordings of the works of Bach, Marchand, Corrette, Franck and Liszt, on the Oryx, Musical Heritage Society, RCA Victor and Musicus labels. His important participation in the musical life of Canada was recognized in 1980 when he was made a Member of the Order of Canada
