2022 NativeDSD Album of the Year Nominee – Jazz Fusion

On August 19, 2017, a team of eight famous Lithuanian musicians gathered in the group Reinless. They presented their debut album Sus Signal at the Broma Jazz festival in Kėdainiai, Lithuania. The album is a near perfect mixture of Funk, Jazz, Electronic and Soul music.

The name of the album Sus Signal comes from the name of the sus chord. It’s a major, sustained chord with a semitone-raised third that appears in three compositions on the album. Meanwhile, the meaning of the group’s name “Reinless” is that they are out of control, unbridled. The names of the album and the group seem to contradict each other, because according to the group’s leader Jievaras Jasinskis, his music is like that – not obeying the rules, but not breaking out into Free Jazz.

Reinless’ frontman and composer is Jievaras Jasinkis. In 2014, Jievaras Jasinkis, the musical mind behind the sound, received an intriguing question: Don‘t you think it‘s about time you did your own thing? Until then his work mainly consisted of arrangements for various bands, orchestras and so on. Throughout the years as a trombone musician, he met and befriended his future band mates. All that was left to do when asked that question was to say ‘yes’. And so the story began and Reinless was founded.

The album was mastered by Vladas Straupas at AnalogFather studio and the Analogue Master Tape was transferred directly to Stereo DSD 128 on the Korg MR-2000S Studio Recorder exclusively for NativeDSD. No equalizers, limiters, compressors or software filters were used in the production.

434 is the second album by Reinless, a Jazz Fusion Band based in Lithuania. Reinless made its debut at the Broma Jazz festival in Kėdainiai in 2014. Its fiery music had already staggered audiences at several Jazz festivals in Lithuania.

Jievaras Jasinskis, a gifted trombonist and composer, gathered his favorite musicians in order to realize his most daring creative visions. He writes rhythmic and vibrant music – a blend of Funk, Soul, Rock and Jazz improvisations.

The album was recorded to Analog Tape and originally released on Stereo CD and 45 rpm Vinyl. 434 has now been mastered by Vladas Straupas at Analog Father Studios especially for Native DSD. The Analog Master Tape was transferred directly to Stereo DSD 128 on a Korg MR-2000S Analog to Digital Converter and Studio Recorder. No equalizers, limiters, compressors or software filters are used in the production. This marks the album’s debut in Stereo DSD.

Analog Father tells us “Reinless frontman and composer is Jievaras Jasinkis. In 2014, Jievaras Jasinkis, a musical mind behind the sound, got a saucy question, don‘t you think it‘s about time you did your own thing?

Until then his work mainly consisted of arrangements for various bands, orchestras and so on. Throughout the years as a trombone musician, he met and befriended his future band mates. All that was left to do when asked that question is say yes. And so the story began and Reinless was founded.

The friendship and support of the bandmates is essential and without them Reinless could be curbed. Broma Jazz became the debut stage for the band and every year since then they return here high-spirited. Reinless also performed in Vilnius Mama Jazz, Birštonas Jazz, ŠIauliai Jazz, Vilnius Jazz, Kaišiadorys Jazz, Nida Jazz.”
