Marek Janowski and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin are working together for the thirteenth season in 2014|2015. At the latest since completing its ten-part concertante Wagner cycle and the attendant CD series in 2013, the oldest German radio orchestra has won a place in the top tier of European concert orchestras.
Nonetheless, the RSB is a young orchestra. More than 80 of its 103 members entered its earlier workplace, the former GDR radio broadcasting station Nalepastraße, for the first time in January 2014 – to produce a CD with tenor Jonas Kaufmann. Another remarkable feature is the pioneering role this orchestra might take from the standpoint of an equal opportunities commissioner. In the once male domain of the symphony orchestra, now forty female members set the tone at the RSB.
