A Spellbinding New Release from a Legendary Artist

In Soft Winds and Roses, Singer Diana Panton reimagines modern classics from the 1960s onward, infusing each song with her unmistakable elegance and soul-stirring artistry. Cinerama: Music From The Movies is the 9th album at NativeDSD that features Jazz Sax player Scott Hamilton. The album contains nine tracks taken from famous films, including Three Coins In The Fountain, On Green Dolphin Street and Close Enough For Love. Composed by Film Music legends including Burt Bacharach, Sammy Cahn, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mandel, Cole Porter and Jule Styne.

Cinerama continues the extraordinary series of Jazz albums that Scott Hamilton began with Giulio Cesare Ricci at Fonè Jazz in 2012. It features four extraordinary musicians: Scott Hamilton, Paolo Birro, Aldo Zunino and Alfred Kramer.

The album was recorded at Stereo DSD 64 using the Pyramix DSD Workstation software from Merging Technologies with Analog to Digital Converters from dCS. It is part of the recordings that Giulio Cesare Ricci made on the occasion of the concerts of the 2022 Fonè Music Festival Piaggio. The location of the recording is the Piaggio Auditorium located inside the famous Pontedera Museum, the place where Piaggio was born and where it still continues to produce today.

Scott Hamilton, who for many years has been performing on the best stages around the world as the leader of his quartet or alongside other sacred monsters of jazz, is an interpreter of extraordinarily elegant music, based on impeccable phrasing and a fascinating sound, which already in the seventies, when the widespread trend was to explore particularly aggressive sound alternatives, imposed him for the sweetness of his saxophone and creative imagination.

The Double Album Live at Top of the Gate features legendary Jazz Pianist Bill Evans and his Jazz Trio featuring Eddie Gomez on Bass and Marty Morell on Drums. Live at Art D’Lugoff’s Top of the Gate from 2xHD and Resonance Records offers listeners a table at the front of the stage for a stellar performance.

You’re about to be transported to October 23, 1968, to Greenwich Village in New York City. Jazz in the 1960s was one of the music’s greatest eras, and thanks to a gentleman named George Klabin, we have this important document of one of its leading talents.

George was only 22 years old at the time, full of passion and engineering skill, when he took advantage of an offer by Evan’s longtime manager, Helen Keane, to record Bill’s new trio. George aired these two fully recorded sets of music one time on his radio show on Columbia University’s WKCR-FM and these tapes have been stored away all these years until now.

This newly remastered and revitalized album of the Bill Evans Trio, one of Jazz’s greatest trios, is now available in not only the original Stereo DSD 64 and DSD 128 editions but now in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, and DXD editions. The mastering was made from the original analog tapes which were recorded on October 23, 1968, in Greenwich Village on an Ampex recorder, using an analog tube console.

The new Stereo DSD 512 edition of the album is exclusively available at NativeDSD and was created by NativeDSD Mastering Engineer Tom Caulfield using the Signalyst “EC” modulators.

Canadian Jazz singer Emilie-Claire Barlow pays tribute to the music of the 1960s on her album The Beat Goes On. It features her own arrangements of popular songs written by Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, Donovan and several others.

The Beat Goes On is Exclusively Available at NativeDSD in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256 and DSD 128 thanks to our signature Higher Rates ProgramIt is the singer’s 2nd album on the 2xHD label at NativeDSD.Com following her earlier album Live In Tokyo.

Barlow says “I am excited to do something a little different on this album. Something that is a bit of a departure from my last few recordings.

In the past I gravitated toward songs of the 30’s and 40’s, inspired by the musical treasure trove of The American Songbook. In seeking out repertoire for a new project, I became fascinated by that vibrant decade of diversity, change and of course music – the 60’s!

After much inspiring and entertaining listening, I have simply chosen songs that hit me. Songs that I connect to in some way, melodies that would run around in my head on ‘repeat’. The idea here was to deconstruct these songs and rebuild them in my own style – perhaps in the form of a reharmonization, a bass line, or a different groove.”

AN ASSORTMENT OF NIBBLES

The first release from the Norwegian Trombone Ensemble on the LAWO Classics label – Nibbles – is nothing less than a box of assorted candy that transcends genre boundaries, albeit in a classical wrapper. The ensemble consists of four of Norway’s best trombonists, all of whom have many years’ experience from prominent Norwegian orchestras like the Oslo Philharmonic and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. The works on this recording range in time from the 17th Century onwards, with genres from Baroque to Bossanova.

As the musicians themselves put it: “In our concerts we attempt to move effortlessly through many different musical styles, performing chamber music for trombones with excellence and a twinkle in the eye. We are aiming to convey the same lighthearted character with this recording and have put together a handful of pieces that we believe display all the fine and varied qualities of the trombone. The pieces cater to all tastes and span over 400 years, from Gabrieli and Beethoven to Alfie by Burt Bacharach, No More Blues by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Fascinating Rhythm by George Gershwin, and Money, Money, Money by ABBA. Sit down with your favorite nibbles, relax and enjoy the concert!”

The Norwegian Trombone Ensemble was formed in 2014 and consists of Audun Breen, Principal Trombone of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sverre Riise, Petter Winroth, and Clare Farr, the trombone section of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. The four performers have extensive experience as soloists and chamber musicians. They are some of Norway’s most outstanding trombonists and master most genres, from renaissance and baroque to contemporary, jazz, and pop.

Jacintha Goes To Hollywood sees the sensual and seductive-voiced chanteuse take on the challenge of performing theme songs and other well known movie related tunes. The program features an eclectic mix of musical material, from the almost over familiar “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and “California Dreaming” to “On Days Like These” from the original British version of The Italian Job.

Her almost solemn and low key performance of “California Dreaming” will completely blow you away as will her thrillingly dynamic and bossa tinged take on “The Windmills Of Your Mind.” Add in a few other classics like “Alfie,” “Que Sera Sera” plus a fabulous light 60s-ish version of “A Man & A Woman” (with electric piano and bongos) and voila! – you have the makings of another Jacintha classic.

Featuring Anthony Wilson on guitar, Iskandar Ismail on piano, Larry Goldings on Hammond B-3, and Ricky Woodward on sax, the album was recorded all analog at 15 ips on 2 inch 24-track masters and these multitrack masters were mixed down to 1/2 inch 30 ips stereo at Sunset Sound by Joe Harley (producer) and Mike Ross (engineer). The 1/2 inch stereo analog masters were transferred to DSD 64 Stereo by David Glaser at Airshow Mastering. This release represents some of Jacintha’s finest work for Groove Note and will be a sure hit with her fans and anyone who enjoys audiophile quality female vocals!

“The nickel?” asks Robert De Niro as Monroe Stahr in “The Last Tycoon”, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald… “The nickel is for the movies”.
This album is for “The Kicks”, Joan Didion and Tyrus. Here’s to the movies.
– Jacintha
