Get the best of both worlds – and save 20% – with this Bundle.

The original Jazz At The Pawnshop album, recorded in 1976, has been regarded as “The Best Jazz Recording of the Century!” (also available at NativeDSD along with Jazz At The Pawnshop Volumes 2 and 3).

Anyone who owns Jazz At The Pawnshop will not be able to resist this album and experiencing the enduring spirit of an incredible musical evening. It’s called Jazz At The Pawnshop – Late Night because these tapes come from previously unreleased recording of the last two sets played late-hours at the closing of the famous Jazz At The Pawnshop recording.

The record company accidentally fell upon this treasure while looking for the masters of Volume II of the original album.  The 40 year-old tapes were in excellent condition, and over a week was spent editing and mastering them in high resolution.

The album keeps the musical tag which bands played to indicate the end of a set.  A slow fade-out and fade-in was made to identify the break before the last one.  You can hear the musicians walking back on stage, picking up their instruments, and getting into the final set of an electrifying evening.

Jazz At The Pawnshop – Late Night is a true gift. As a special bonus for our listeners, NativeDSD.Com brings you a Stereo DSD 512 edition of Jazz At The Pawnshop – Late Night. Exclusively available from NativeDSD Music.

Arne Domnerus – Alto Saxophone, Clarinet
Bengt Hallberg – Piano
Lars Erstrand – Vibes
Georg Riedel – Bass
Egil Johansen – Drums

After a highly successful tour, Shades of Chet was released in 1999. This album is an absolute reference album for Italian jazz.

It originated from the project known as “Tribute to Chet Baker” featuring the five most famous Italian jazz musicians in the world: Enrico Rava (trumpet and flugelhorn), Paolo Fresu (trumpet and flugelhorn), Stefano Bollani (piano), Enzo Pietropaoli (double bass) and Roberto Gatto (drums).

In 1998, on the 10th anniversary of the death of Chet Baker, Enrico Rava and Paolo Fresu, conceived the project of a series of concerts dedicated to Chet Baker. The tribute to the great trumpet player, with whom three members of the tribute group played (Rava, Pietropaoli and Gatto) is immediately understood not just in the sense of tribute, but in the sense of revival: in the style of the leaders, both so close to the poetics of Baker, in the choice of songs (not just those made famous by Baker, but also those he loved , although he played them rarely), in short, in the recreation of an atmosphere, crystallized in those golden 1950s, the years of troubled youth of Baker, to which most of the songs can be traced back.

One of the album’s unique features is that the leaders of the quintet (Rava and Frescu) are recorded on two different channels (Rava the left, Fresu the right).  In addition, both have done one song solo or “alone”, in a personal homage: to Chet Baker. The solo tracks are Enrico Rava on “Retrato em branco and preto” (composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim) and Paolo Fresu on “You Can Not Go Home Again” (composed by Don Sebesky).

Shades of Chet was produced by Biagio Pagano and Mario Guidi for Millesuoni Sri.  It was recorded by Giulio Cesare Ricci using his Signoricci system, entirely in analog using tube microphones and electronics. The Analog Master was recorded with the Ampex ATR 102 2 track at 1/2 inch 30ips. Mr. Ricci used dCS Analog to DSD converters to transfer the Analog Master Tape to Stereo DSD 64 to create this very special DSD release.

    It’s absolutely a must have!

Enrico Rava – Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Paolo Fresu – Trumpet & Flugelhorn
    Stefano Bollani – Piano
    Enzo Pietropaoli – Double Bass
    Roberto Gatto – Drums

Quiet Winter Night from the Hoff Ensemble is an album of music that features “Jazz, Folk and Beyond”. Quiet Winter Night is one of 2L’s best selling albums of all time.

The Hoff Ensemble consists of some of Norway’s finest jazz and session musicians, fronted by trumpeter Mathias Eick, of ECM renown, who plays a leading role in several of the compositions. The ensemble’s basic quartet features legendary veteran bassist Arild Andersen and arranger Jan Gunnar Hoff on piano. Hoff has performed with his own group since 1993, collaborating with such artists as Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Maria Joao and Alex Acuna.

This time in this great Norwegian ensemble he mixes flavors in a “cross-over” setting. Eick, with whom Hoff has worked on earlier projects, was the obvious first choice for Quiet Winter Night, along with Andersen and the rest of the band, complemented by Rune Arnesen (ex N.P.Molvær) on percussion and Børge Petersen-Øverleir, Norway’s leading session guitarist.

Brilliant fiddle player Annbjørg Lien is an exciting addition to the Hoff Ensemble, giving Quiet Winter Night a sound that is definitely Nordic with elements of jazz, folk and beyond, making this an interesting and original journey. On some of the instrumental tracks, like “Blågutten”, Eick and Petersen-Øverleir create an overall jazz/fusion sound, while the trio setting of “Redd Mamma” is reminiscent of the work of Sweden’s Jan Johansson. “Hva skal hende nå” bears comparison with Metheny’s ballad form, yet with a more rock-influenced guitar sound. This tune also includes a great bass solo by Andersen.

The music is created by film composers Geir Bøhren and Bent Åserud and among the vocalists are some of Norway’s top names (and Universal artists) in popular music: Helene Bøksle, Åsne Valland Nordli, Sondre Bratland, Unni Wilhelmsen, Tomine Harket, Bjørn Johan Muri, Cecilia Vennersten and Bjørn Eidsvåg.

One of the great originals in the jazz hierarchy, Lester Young was without doubt the most influential tenor saxophonist after Coleman Hawkins. A highly sensitive, graceful player, and an enigmatic personality, Young had a winning sense of time and space and a most engaging gift for improvising on songs rather than chord sequences. He played with great feeling for the lyric of a song with a very special, bittersweet brand of melancholy. There are some jazz exponents whose recorded work is worth preservation and close attention. Lester is one such jazz exponent. 2xHD are proud to bring present this historic recording to the digital high resolution world in Stereo DSD 64fs.

Jacintha Goes To Hollywood sees the sensual and seductive-voiced chanteuse take on the challenge of performing theme songs and other well known movie related tunes. The program features an eclectic mix of musical material, from the almost over familiar “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and “California Dreaming” to “On Days Like These” from the original British version of The Italian Job.

Her almost solemn and low key performance of “California Dreaming” will completely blow you away as will her thrillingly dynamic and bossa tinged take on “The Windmills Of Your Mind.” Add in a few other classics like “Alfie,” “Que Sera Sera” plus a fabulous light 60s-ish version of “A Man & A Woman” (with electric piano and bongos) and voila! – you have the makings of another Jacintha classic.

Featuring Anthony Wilson on guitar, Iskandar Ismail on piano, Larry Goldings on Hammond B-3, and Ricky Woodward on sax, the album was recorded all analog at 15 ips on 2 inch 24-track masters and these multitrack masters were mixed down to 1/2 inch 30 ips stereo at Sunset Sound by Joe Harley (producer) and Mike Ross (engineer). The 1/2 inch stereo analog masters were transferred to DSD 64 Stereo by David Glaser at Airshow Mastering. This release represents some of Jacintha’s finest work for Groove Note and will be a sure hit with her fans and anyone who enjoys audiophile quality female vocals!

“The nickel?” asks Robert De Niro as Monroe Stahr in “The Last Tycoon”, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald… “The nickel is for the movies”.
This album is for “The Kicks”, Joan Didion and Tyrus. Here’s to the movies.

Jacintha Is Her Name is Jacintha’s fourth album for Groove Note. It features her versions of Light My Fire and Willow Weep for Me which have gone on to become classics in the audiophile world.  The album is exclusively available in Stereo and 5 Channel DSD 128 and DSD 256 from NativeDSD Music.

The album is also Jacintha’s tribute to singer Julie London.  London was a legendary torch song singer and pop balladeer of the 60s and early 70s. She passed away in Los Angeles in the year 2000. The singer had a huge hit with her version of Cry Me A River still retains a large fan base worldwide. She has always been one of Jacintha’s favorite singers. It only seems natural that for the sensual and talented Jacintha, no mean balladeer herself, has chosen to record and dedicate an album to Julie.

Inspired mainly by Ms. London’s first Liberty album, Julie Is Her Name and its spare guitar and acoustic bass formats, Jacintha and arranger/pianist Bill Cunliffe (nominated for a Jazz Arranging Grammy Award) have come up with a spectacular new release. Using the guitar and bass combo as a basic springboard, the album has taken some of the songs most closely associated with Ms. London and transformed them into the kind of material that Jacintha handles best. Intimate, sexy, seductive.

A couple of tunes utilize a trio behind Jacintha but the great majority of the songs stay faithful to the guitar/bass combo and two instrument concept with the additional twist of using some different instruments in the arrangements. (e.g. sax and bass for Willow Weep For Me, sax and piano for Something Cool and piano and bass for Cry Me A River).

The very spare instrumental arrangements lend themselves to extremely high quality audiophile sound. Producer Joe Harley and Recording Engineer Michael C. Ross have outdone themselves on this recording. Creating sound quality and fidelity that are some of the best ever from Groove Note (or any other label for that matter).

Dave Glackin at Positive Feedback says “This album is a sheer joy to listen to from the first note. This may be Jacintha’s best album yet. The silky, smooth, and sensuous voice of Jacintha is reproduced with an utterly natural quality, revealing every nuance of her phenomenal intonation, phrasing, breath control, and vocal modulation.”

    Harry Allen – Saxophone
Larry Bunker – Vibes & Percussion
Ron Eschete – 7 string guitar
    Holly Hoffmann – Flute

Here are Louis Armstrong and his All Stars at two different locations in San Francisco 1954, doing what they loved and did best: playing Jazz of a quality defying description, and, as Louis would have said “pleasing the people”. These recordings happily capture Louis and his cohorts at the glorious height of their powers during two engagements (broadcast from the Downbeat and Hangover clubs) of the kind that often formed the All-Stars’ nightly round.  Seldom, if ever, have Armstrong and his All-Stars been captured in more exultant form.

From the roars of applause that greet Louis Armstrong, every track on this album reveals the All-Stars at the zenith of their creative powers.  From ‘Indiana’ presented with a flaring urgency, highlighted by an exultant trumpet solo outstanding even by Armstrong standards to ‘High Society’ which reveals the staggering form that Armstrong was in that night; listen, there is a carefree humor, which shows in a nutshell how to mix hilarity and jazz of monumental worth.

Such performances as this are seminal to Jazz.  Like Louis Armstrong, music like this will never come again.
