“Vulnerasti cor meum” literally translates as “You have wounded my heart” – which is not only the most classic of amorous metaphors, but also one of the most celebrated to be featured in the Song of Songs. The album is Exclusively Available at NativeDSD in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64 and DXD

In this, perhaps the greatest love poem in the history of literature, the two central characters of the story exchange promises of love that are pervaded by sensual metaphors and passionate similes verging on the erotic, in a style that lies on the border between the sacred and the secular.

Accordingly, a similar blend marks the compositional style of the pieces proposed in this anthology, all based on texts drawn from the famous canticle. In these works, the boundary between motet and madrigal is blurred and impalpable, inviting and inspiring audacious readings that are more characteristic of secular music.

After the excellent reviews of their debut recording dedicated to Rigatti (“…the music making of I Disinvolti ’s three male voices and continuo players is exceptional”, David Vickers, Gramophone), this is the second disc of the ensemble i Disinvolti. Included are twelve unfamiliar works, here given world premiere recordings.

Vivaldi: Le Quattro Stagioni (The Four Seasons) & La Follia (The Madness) features Violinist and Conductor Julien Chauvin with Counter-Tenor Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian and Le Concert de la Loge on Alpha Classics.

This album is Exclusively Available at NativeDSD in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64 and DXD.

More than 300 years after Antonio Vivaldi composed The Four Seasons, the most famous work in the history of music is still as lively and invigorating as ever. Now Le Concert de la Loge has recorded this Baroque treasure with its founder and director, the violinist Julien Chauvin, as soloist.

For the occasion, the Château de Versailles has loaned him an exceptional instrument: a Neapolitan violin by Nicola Gagliano, adorned with fleur-de-lys and inlaid decorations. This instrument, which was played by Yehudi Menuhin in the 1970s, comes from the ‘collection de Madame Adélaïde’, named after one of Louis XV’s daughters. It has not left the Château for almost a century and is in a perfect state of preservation.

The main work is complemented by Vivaldi’s no less celebrated La Follia (well known as music featured in the hit TV series The Addams Family) and an aria that is now famous in its own right, ‘Sovvente il sole’ from Andromeda liberata, the score of which was discovered in Venice in 2002. It is performed here by the countertenor Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian.

Le Berger Innocent (The Innocent Shepard) is the first album at NativeDSD from the Ensemble Danguy.

Imitations of country life enjoyed great success during the reign of Louis XV. In musical terms, popular instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy and the musette enjoyed a truly golden age and inspired a vast repertoire that often evoked rural pleasures.

These instruments were not only played by aristocratic amateurs but also by professional virtuosi such as l’illustre Danguy and Colin Charpentier, who delighted the French court as well as the audiences of the Concert spirituel .

These imitations of rural life combine with instrumental virtuosity to form the basis of this program, in which we hear the hurdy-gurdy and the musette in instrumental works and cantatas.

Flutist Ashley Solomon and Florilegium continue the Spohr Collection project with Volume 3. Ashley plays nine original exquisite 18th century flutes from Peter Spohr’s private collection, which can now be heard around the world for the first time. They are made from various materials including solid ivory, ebony and ivory, and boxwood and ivory. These historical instruments possess a beautiful and unique sound, making them most desirable to play.

This new recording explores repertoire from Italy, Germany and England written by composers including Vivaldi, Mozart, Clagget, and Locatelli. Each work matches historically and geographically with the flute Ashley plays. Soprano Rowan Pierce joins them for two songs by Chilcot and Lampe.

Internationally acclaimed flutist Ashley Solomon and period ensemble Florilegium present The Spohr Collection, Vol. 2.  Ashley Solomon says: “The opportunity of playing original flutes from the 18th Century is a rare occurrence. Whenever the chance presents itself, it must be seized immediately!”.

On Solomon’s remarkable Spohr Collection, Vol. 1, he set himself a challenge to record on 9 original flutes, mostly domestic chamber music, together with his colleagues from Florilegium. This new release, Spohr Collection, Vol. 2, features six flute concertos from the 18th century on six unique flutes; some made of ivory, various woods (boxwood and ebony), and one of porcelain and gold.

Each instrument is matched with repertoire from the same period it was initially made and played in. This offers a unique insight into the world of the flute virtuoso in the 18th century. These concertos by Vivaldi, C.P.E. Bach, Quantz, Leclair, Blavet and Woodcock invite the listener to experience and enjoy the rich sound world that each of these original flutes conveys.
