Eric Larson speaks about NativeDSD in a recent podcast with Bruce Wawrzyniak

Recently NativeDSD was discussed in an episode of the podcast “Now Hear This Entertainment” with Bruce Wawrzyniak.

Wawrzyniak interviewed Eric Larsen, who is a guitar player and one half of the duo act the Cracker Brothers. Eric is also the Head of Marketing, Artist Relations, and Sales for DW Fearn Hazelrigg Industries and the CEO of Outer Marker Records. In the podcast, Eric talks about Hazelrig Brothers, Outer Marker Records, and shares some interesting insights about his work. It was a pleasure to hear Eric mention Native DSD, and it is a pleasure to collaborate with Eric.

Bruce: Now, eventually, we’re going to be talking about how the music is available and so on. But Outer Marker Records, I’m going to say plans to. Maybe you’re going to update me and say we’re already doing it. But vinyl is also going to be part of the Outer Marker Records operation. Yes?….

Eric: Absolutely. And we’re trying to make sure that we’re supporting whichever formats make sense for us and for the listeners. So right now we do all our work direct to DSD, which is an extraordinarily high resolution digital format. And we do make our records available through our partners at Native DSD as high resolution DSD and WAV files. And we’re working, of course, with the team right now to make sure that we’re going to be able to put things out on audiophile quality vinyl. And we did a lot of work with the folks at Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana. And we’ve now released the Atmos mix, the spatial audio mix of Synchronicity. So we want to make sure that we’re providing this file album of the absolute highest quality in whatever format people really want to enjoy on their great systems.

Bruce: This is unique. Usually, I feel like – be conscious, Bruce, of the fact that you have 162 other countries besides the United States that have listened to now hear this entertainment. This time, I’m going to say for the people in America who aren’t familiar, you keep mentioning Native DSD, and you talked about them before, but I just want you to re-explain who they are, what that is, in case people think, “This is a little over my head. I’ll just go to the Outer Marker Records website and purchase the music through there,” which I’m sure you’re happy with, but I know you’re also eager to be a good partner with Native DSD.

Eric: Yes, and what we do is if you come to our site, if you’d like to purchase a CD from us, from one of the albums, we absolutely can sell you that, but we have links directly to Native DSD. Native DSD is a website run by our partners. They happen to be in Europe, and what they do is they offer a wonderful catalog of high-resolution downloads of music at audiophile quality. It’s a really high bitrate DSD. It’s really high-resolution wav files as downloads, and they want to make sure that people are getting the absolute highest quality they can possibly get.

Bruce: So let’s go back to the fact that you said that Outer Marker Records is, in fact, working with Apple Music. So between Apple Music and Sweetwater Studios, it sounds like, and what you just described with Native DSD, of course, that you’re being very strategic in the partners that you’re choosing and working with, and you’re having conversations, and it’s not just a case of an artist uploading their own music and saying, “Hopefully it’s going to end up anywhere and everywhere.”
