All the tracks on this album are heard as they were performed. The DSD Download was created by transferring the original analogue master recorded on an Ampex ATR-102 Tape Recorder at 2 tracks 1/2 inch 30ips tape that was modified by David Manley. The mastering for the DSD Download was done by Giulio Cesare Ricci using the analog and valve Signoricci system.

In this sampler I made a selection based on interesting recordings of small to middle size ensembles. In my opinion a binaural recording gives you an extremely precise experience of location where the instruments are placed. My goal is always to achieve a very intimate feeling with an image close to the members of the ensemble as if you are there.

This sampler contains a variety in music styles from very classical to almost folk and from duo to small orchestra with soloist. Please enjoy the immersive experience of my favorite binaural recordings.

Binaural Recordings are reproductions of sound the way human ears hear it. In fact, the word “binaural” literally just means “using both ears.” When you listen to a binaural recording through headphones, you perceive distinct and genuine 360° sound. It’s the purest, most natural way to record and listen to music.

Binaural recordings are made using a special “Dummy Head” microphone that simulates a human head. Two microphones are built into its ear canals, which allow it to detect the location of sounds around it the same we do naturally. When a binaural recording is played back through headphones, the listener hears exactly what the dummy head heard during the performance. Every nuance of where a sound is coming from is preserved (whether it’s in front, beside, above, below or behind you).

To be able to listen back to the recording and experience the three-dimensional sound, the left and right playback channels just have to go directly to our own left and right ears. The easiest way to do that is to listen through headphones, and any brand or style will work (nothing fancy required!). Every time you pop on your headphones, you actually have the sensation of being transported back to the location of the recording, for an immersive listening experience.

The songs included on this album were recorded at Stereo Pure DSD 256 and Pure DSD 128 and each album was delivered to us from the original edit master without any PCM processing. This album is available in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64 thanks to our Higher Rates Program.

We classify Pure DSD albums as ‘recordings where mixing and balancing are performed in the Analog or DSD domain prior to digitizing. With no post-processing in PCM.’ We obtain the DSD master files directly from the labels, and present them to you exactly as they listened to them in their final mastering session.

One Microphone Recordings, Vol. 1 is the latest in our NativeDSD Presents series.  Highlighting the rich catalog available at Native DSD Music.

It was created from our catalogue of One Microphone Recordings. Including several of the recordings demonstrated during the AXPONA 2024 Audio Show. Our music was presented at AXPONA in collaboration with Linkwitz Audio. Read the full report from Linkwitz CEO Frank Brenner.

It also means that TRPTK has been in existence for nine years. Starting with three rebellious youngsters and a dream, growing into an extended family of seven crew members and 197 artists. Those 203 people have collectively recorded 97 albums, EPs and singles, and shared their music with hundreds of thousands of people all around the world. (for those doing the math: we didn’t miscount, one of our staff members is also an artist on the label)

You having this album in your hands, about ready to play it in your hi-fi system. It also means that you, our dear listener, have been with us for a part or all of these years. Words cannot describe my gratitude for your support, your generosity, and your endless thirst for new and exciting music. Without this — without you — none of this would be possible.

What it doesn’t mean is that we’re leaving it here, at just nine years. If it’s up to us, there will be a ten-year anniversary, a 25-year anniversary, … Heck, we’ll go on as long as we can, as far as the music takes us. Pentatone 2023: NativeDSD Highlights is a compilation containing music from the most sought after Pentatone downloads at NativeDSD during 2023.

With music from their Native DSD Albums of the Year – Bartók Concerto for Orchestra presented by Karina Canellakis and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Folk Songs from Magdalena Kožená, the Czech Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle.

As well as other gems on the label from Arabella Steinbacher, Holland Baroque and Chloe Chua, among others, the track list provides an insight into Pentatone’s diverse and impressive roster.
