Swedish baritone Håkan Hagegård was catapulted to tame with his role of Papageno in Ingmar Bergman’s film version of Die Zauberflöte. Håkan’s career spans four decades, and he has performed in all the major opera houses and concert halls, including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, Vienna Staatsoper, Opera Bastille, Sydney Opera House, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. His operaticdebut was in 1968 as Papageno withthe Stockholm Opera, and his Metropolitan Opera debut followed ten years later as Malatesta in Don Pasquale opposite the Norina of Beverly Sills. His vast operatic repertoire encompasses such varied roles as Don Giovanni, Scarpia, Germont, Amfortas, Conte Almaviva, Posa and Figaro. In 1991, he created the role of Beaumarchais in the world premiere production of John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles at the Metropolitan Opera.

Mastering Engineer | For the 2xHD transfer of this recording, the original 1/4”, 15 ips CCIR master tape was played on a Nagra-T modified with high-end tube playback electronics, wired with OCC silver cable from the playback head direct to a Telefunken EF806 tube. The Nagra T has one of the best transports ever made with four direct drive motors, two pinch rollers and a tape tension head. We did an analog transfer for each high-res sampling and A & B comparisons were made with the original LP, using the KRONOS turntable with a BLACK BEAUTY tone arm. DSD 64 was done using dCS 905 ADC and dCS Vivaldi clock DSD 128 was done using Ayre QA9pro ADC DSD 256 was done using Merging Technologies Horus ADC DXD 352.8kHz was done using MSB Platinum Studio ADC plus
