2022 NativeDSD Album of the Year Nominee – Jazz Fusion
On August 19, 2017, a team of eight famous Lithuanian musicians gathered in the group Reinless. They presented their debut album Sus Signal at the Broma Jazz festival in Kėdainiai, Lithuania. The album is a near perfect mixture of Funk, Jazz, Electronic and Soul music.
The name of the album Sus Signal comes from the name of the sus chord. It’s a major, sustained chord with a semitone-raised third that appears in three compositions on the album. Meanwhile, the meaning of the group’s name “Reinless” is that they are out of control, unbridled. The names of the album and the group seem to contradict each other, because according to the group’s leader Jievaras Jasinskis, his music is like that – not obeying the rules, but not breaking out into Free Jazz.
Reinless’ frontman and composer is Jievaras Jasinkis. In 2014, Jievaras Jasinkis, the musical mind behind the sound, received an intriguing question: Don‘t you think it‘s about time you did your own thing? Until then his work mainly consisted of arrangements for various bands, orchestras and so on. Throughout the years as a trombone musician, he met and befriended his future band mates. All that was left to do when asked that question was to say ‘yes’. And so the story began and Reinless was founded.
The album was mastered by Vladas Straupas at AnalogFather studio and the Analogue Master Tape was transferred directly to Stereo DSD 128 on the Korg MR-2000S Studio Recorder exclusively for NativeDSD. No equalizers, limiters, compressors or software filters were used in the production.
