Always follow your own identity, with respect for the music and the musicians you work with – that’s my credo when making music. I also have a weakness for musicians who use their knowledge of the tradition to go their own individual ways, so I consider myself lucky to have found kindred souls in Harmen Fraanje, Anton Goudsmit and Ernst Reijseger, who share this view of making music and who have the same autonomous drive to create.
For some time now I’ve worked with two trios: Fugimundi, with Ernst and Anton, and Gatecrash, with Harmen and Anton. On this album, I’ve shifted the two trios around to my heart’s content, with beautiful moments as a result. This produced an album of solo, duo, trio and quartet performances in all the shades and varieties that music means to me at this moment.
Is this jazz? Hmm… Is this improvised music? Definitely! Sometimes witty and absurd, sometimes romantic or funky, sometimes hasty and sometimes mean, hard and overwhelming, but always our own.
With pride I present to you the album BOOMPETIT.
Enjoy!
