I love Brahms’ 4 symphonies, so much so I have 8 sets in DSD64 on my hard drive. But listening to samples of Maestro Blomstedt (at age 92) and the Leipzig Orchestra I thought it worth a try.
Although Pentatone recorded this album in PCM 96 kHz, I found NativeDSD’s DSD 256 edition remarkably offered far more detail and spaciousness. Blomstedt’s pace is on the deliberate side which allows one to really appreciate the intricacies of Brahms’ music but there’s plenty of energy and drama when needed.
All in all one of my favorite performances and recordings of this great music.
