In this “recital” program we find music by Weiss, a contemporary of Bach, Ponce, the wonderful Mexican composer and Leisner, a New York based player, composer and teacher.
This album is available in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64 exclusively at NativeDSD. It is not available on SACD.
Steve Cowan tells us about listening to his new album in Stereo DSD 256:
I don’t consider myself an audiophile, or tech-savvy for that matter, but using my MacBook and a program called Audirvana, I am able to play the Stereo DSD 256 music files of this album.
The difference is striking. Dynamic range, timbral variety, rich overtones, a realistic sense of the space. You really feel as if you’re there in the room, and it is within these small nuances where the magic of the guitar is found! This album will eventually make its way to familiar streaming platforms, although not in DSD quality. The best way to hear the music, and to support small artists and labels such as myself and HR Recordings, is to purchase the album directly from Native DSD.

This production is pure gold. Cowan is one of the top guitar players of his generation. He is now playing a spruce guitar so the colors, dynamics and cleanness of his technique are quite impressive.
This is not Steve’s best quality. The most remarkable one is his sweet musicality. The 24 Ponce integral of the Preludes is a landmark in this recording. His Weiss on guitar will make lute players to be jealous.
A great recording debut for HR Recordings and for guitarist Steve Cowan.
