5 Centuries of Violin Music presents violin repertoire out of five centuries in a recital program featuring violinist Alban Beikircher.
There is no instrument, that features such a rich and broad expressiveness.
– Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Above all, it were especially composing violin virtuosos which steadily continued developing the tonal and technical possibilities of the violin to this day.
This recording provides an overview of this through representative composers from different periods of the history of the instrument.
From Biber and his beautiful “Rosary Sonatas”, then Tartini and his “Devil’s Trill” Sonate, one of Mozart Sonatas with piano, Paganini’s “Caprice”, Ysaÿe’s solo Sonate nº2 , the almost forgotten “Arabian Song” in a revision by Kreisler and a new piece by young German composer Tobias Peschanel (1983).
