Born in 1946 and living in Germany for decades, saxophonist Németh János is one of the most outstanding representatives of the “great generation” of jazz. Since the 1960s, he has played with Aladár Pege, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, György Vukán, Tony Lakatos, Imre Kőszegi, Art Farmer, Carlo Ambrosetti, Zbigniew Namysłowski, among others.

On his album Exodus, Nemeth and the members of the Nemeth Janos Quintet he recalls his own exodus, the painful and joyful experiences of his departure from his homeland. The 70-year-old doyen of jazz with young talents of Hungary. Modern “straight-ahead” material based on hard bop traditions.

“János Németh was one of the first musicians who played modern jazz in Hungary, and he played with the best Hungarian Rhythm & Brass players (eg. Pege Aladár, Kőszegi Imre) for many years. In the 80’s I also had the pleasure to play in Pege Aladár’s quintet, and as a beginner I learned a lot from János at that time. I know, that besides teaching he spend a lot of time with live music, with practicing and composing. A special pleasure for me, that after a long time finally he has carried out this CD. He recorded his own pieces orchestrated by himself with the best young talents of the Hungarian jazz scene. The experienced musician plays fantastically together with the young talents, as all of them speak the same musical language. Finally, the long-awaited record was born, I recommend it heartily.”
– Tony Lakatos (famous Hungarian saxophonist)
