Cadences is a new Pure DSD 256 Stereo recording from Attila Gyárfás and Gabriel Zucker on the Hunnia Records label. The album is Exclusively Available from NativeDSD in Pure DSD Stereo DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64 plus Stereo DSD 512.

Living in separate continents, Attila Gyárfás and Gabriel Zucker have developed the unique synergy of their wide-ranging and ambitious duo project playing in short spans of a week or two at a time on the road in diverse venues — from candle-lit jazz clubs in Edinburgh and Istanbul to an electronic music venue built out of repurposed car speakers in Timișoara; from an art gallery in London to a sculpture park outside of Cluj-Napoca.

Performing sometimes with a grand piano and a high-fi sound system, but sometimes with a skeletal drum kit, a synthesizer, and a single speaker, the duo is at home within a remarkable range of sounds: passages of complex contrapuntal chamber music are followed by noisy improvised soundscapes punctuated by Gyárfás’s gong synthesizer, and followed again by Zucker’s plaintive lullabies.

Gyárfás and Zucker developed the new music for this album in February 2023 on a tour interrupted by the earthquake in Turkiye, before audiences in Budapest, Szeged, Belgrade, Sofia, Plovdiv, and Istanbul, rehearsed at sound checks and on trains and buses. The music was recorded finally in August 2023, both halves in single epic live takes, in a single-day recording session in Budapest.
