Trees From Underneath is an album from Hunnia featuring Balázs Rodek and his Jazz Quartet. Recorded and exclusively available in Pure DSD 256 Stereo from NativeDSD.
I really like to read scientific articles about nature, stars, quantum physics. One of them says that NASA estimates that there are about 100 to 400 billion stars in our galaxy.
In 2015, scientists estimated that there are three trillion trees on Earth. I found this data really impressive. I enjoy hiking in the forest, being in nature and I always felt some mystical energies around trees.
Sometimes I wonder that their sense of time is different than ours. In this manner trees are very similar to stars. What it takes decades for us, it is just a short period of time for them.
I wanted to express this in my six new compositions and arrangements on this album. I wanted to create a dreamy sound and told my musicians to try to take it slow, to listen to each other, to improvise together and let flow with the music.
Let the music take us – and the listener – to unknown places, just like when you find a new route in the forest. During the songwriting and arranging process I watched several films from Béla Tarr. I found it really inspiring how he uses his own techniques and how he dares to persist in his unique artistic vision. It gave me courage to experiment with different forms and aspects in these compositions and to believe in my own vision.
So I also would like to dedicate this album to Mr. Béla Tarr. Thank you.
