Principal players of the London Symphony Orchestra along with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jaime Martin display their virtuosic talents on this album of concertos for wind instruments by Mozart, recorded in concert in the excellent acoustic of the Jerwood Hall at LSO St Luke’s.
Three of Mozart’s wind concertos are included: the Oboe Concerto (K314) with soloist Olivier Stankiewicz, the Clarinet Concerto (K622) performed by clarinetist Andrew Marriner, and the Horn Concerto No 2 (K417) played by Timothy Jones.
Complementing these works is a performance of the beautiful Sinfonia Concertante (K297b), in which oboist Juliana Koch, clarinetist Chris Richards, and bassoonist Rachel Gough join Timothy Jones in the solo roles. Also included is a recording of Mozart’s popular Serenade No 10, ‘Gran Partita’, performed by the LSO Wind Ensemble.

This is Mozart just the way I like him!

The LSO has long held its coveted position as the pre-eminent orchestra in the UK thanks to the many superb musicians within its ranks. On this generously filled double album from LSO Live, the orchestra’s distinguished Wind Principals show their mettle in a selection of Mozart’s most popular and entrancing works for wind.
All five works were recorded live in the fine acoustic of Jerwood Hall, LSO St. Luke’s. The three Concertos and the Sinfonia Concertante in DSD 256fs on October 12-13, 2019, while Serenade No. 10 in DSD 128fs on October 31, 2015. The Classic Sound team of Jonathan Stokes and Neil Hutchinson have engineered a natural and well-balanced recording.

This album is an absolute must-have. It’s all here. When done right, the French Horn can be the most beautiful instrument and here it is done right. So are the winds, oboe, and entire orchestra. There are so many five star quality pieces here, I could listen to this all day long.
