Returning to his home state of Rhode Island for a series of concerts, jazz and blues singer Leland Brown managed to squeeze in a night in the studio with his friends, Evening Sky. Brown’s intimate voice is surrounded by the subtle, swirling sounds of the quartet.
They gathered around a single microphone (an AEA R88 stereo ribbon) and recorded the standard “Nature Boy” direct to DSD. Pedal steel guitarist Chris Brooks arranged the song with a nod to the exotica sound pioneered by artists like Martin Denny.
