Live In Tokyo 2015 features cellist Marek Szpakiewicz accompanied by pianist Jiayi Shi in a recital that features the works of Dvorak, Chopin, Shostakovich, Piazzolla and Kreisler. Critics have hailed the performance of Szpakiewicz as one that is “convergent to artistic highs”, with its unique interpretations that carefully draw each scene while pursuing the spirit of every note.

The album was recorded live at Oji Hall in Japan on March 27, 2015 in DSD with only two DPA 4006 microphones. DSD is an innovative technology that allows us to recreate the sounds that our performers want to convey to the audience. In a recital, we need to bring this sound to the listener without compromising as if they were listening at the venue. I think DSD it is the best at transmitting these subtle nuances in my recordings.

With music that is perfect, there must be no mistake in the location of the music (or sound space) where elements such as pianissimo, space, silence, tone, and reverberation have significant meanings. That’s why Marek’s live performance was recorded with DSD.
