When I was twelve years of age I was reading stories by Simon Carmiggelt. Daily. I do not know where that started. His mind inspired me at this early age. I love his humor, his melancholy, beautiful writing style. What a talent this man!On a nice day, early 2000, I had the idea to do something with my fascination for his thoughts. I always felt so attached to the stories and they really opened up my mind. I thought, I can create something with this. The form was not so hard to decide on. It had to be songs.

Al vanaf mijn twaalfde lees ik de verhalen van Simon Carmiggelt. Dagelijks. Ik weet niet waar dat vandaan komt. Zijn kronkels inspireren me van jongs af aan. Ik hou van zijn humor, van zijn melancholie, van zijn prachtige stijl van schrijven. Wat een supertalent was die man!
Op een mooie dag, ergens begin 2000, kreeg ik het idee iets met mijn ‘kronkel fascinatie’ te doen. Ik voelde me altijd zo ontzettend betrokken bij de verhalen en ze maakten zoveel bij me los, dat ik dacht: Hier moet ik iets moois mee kunnen doen. De keus was niet zo moeilijk. Het moesten liedjes worden.
