Master pianist Nicolas van Poucke, called “a true poetic musician” by the Volkskrant, returns to the Small Hall with an eclectic program; Sweelinck, Mozart, and Debussy.
Van Poucke opens with Sweelinck’s melancholy Variations on Mein Junges Leben hat ein End and from Debussy you will hear the beautiful Reflets dans l’eau.

What I particularly like, is that the recording is a realistic and ‘unpolished’ version. Noises from the Hall (and the pedals), as well as the inclusion of applause, make it life-like. Especially the roaring applause after Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 9 in D major, K.311. Van Poucke begins the Sonata with a captivating Allegro con spirito, followed by a thoughtful and poetically rendered Andante con espressione.
Audiophile Style
The rendition of the piano is completely natural sounding like a real piano in your room with a sense of size that stereo can’t deliver. All of the natural reverb and reflections you would hear in the hall are presented in your space. […] The performance by Mr. Van Poucke is wonderful and judging from the enthusiastic applause, the audience agrees.

Owning all three of his previous albums in DSD, I am a fan of Nicholas van Poucke thanks to TRPTK and Native DSD.
In this new album, he plays with lively expression, warmth and sensitivity throughout. His playing of the Sonata K311 reminds me of the widely-acclaimed Mozart interpreter Mitsuko Uchida’s recorded in the 1980’s.
TRPTK’s sound is excellent, as usual. Audience noise is thankfully minimal. Highly recommended.
