Xavier Dubois Foley is a contemporary American composer and virtuoso double bassist. He unites, mixes, fuses and uses different styles together in his works such as Jazz, Classical and Rhythm & Blues.
In The Falling Seagull, double bass player Sasha Witteveen performs the music that Foley composed with the influence of the erhu, a Chinese string instrument, and with Irish folk music.
it is very inspiring (and appealing) that Foley is composing music that explores endless possibilities of the double bass as a versatile solo instrument.

To my demanding ears, Sacha is one of those gifted women who qualify for classical solo pieces, playing with little or no vibrato in her musically driven performances. […] Opulent perfectionism and well-judged glissandos define her virtuoso non-accompanied solo style in what I consider to be the best part of her debut SACD: ‘The Falling Seagull’.
