Pianist Alessandro de Luca plays the music of Alexis Weissenberg plus three selections from My Fair Lady on the album Falling In Jazz. The music was performed on the Angelo Fabbrini – Gran coda Steinway “Caravaggio” piano. This is the same instrument that Alexis Weissenberg played in recent concerts.
Alessandro de Luca tells us “That Alexis Weissenberg was a great pianist, we all know. Apart from that he was also a well known composer, at least in the world of music and to his own fanbase. His “Sonate en état de Jazz” was performed and recorded by various interpreters, some of them were famous.
Recently, thanks to Maria Weissenberg, daughter of the musician, an unexpected number of other piano works have come to light. A first volume of these have been published by Schott, while the original scores of Trenet’s versions, which had been finally found, were edited by a Japanese publishing house.
Many other works, which I was lucky enough to examine first thanks to Maria herself, are waiting to be known and published. They deserve great interest, not only among piano lovers, but in the panorama of composition in general. Within the unmistakable character of their author, lies a combination of depth and lightness, of complexity and immediacy. Those who have had the good fortune to listen to Alexis Weissenberg live, will recognize his musical portrait. This music is not only accessible to experts, but also to the public, due to the charm and the often-overwhelming immediacy of its breath.”
