The album is appropriately titled Fragmentation. Tracks 1-6 are recorded and edited versions of the fashion show without musical accompaniment for which Seigen Ono was in charge of sound design, and tracks 7 and onwards are basically the music prepared for this show (these were probably used as fragments in the actual show). Of course, these include ordinary music (all of which are wonderful and refreshing). However, it is clear that “sound” rather than “music” is the main character of this album.
Applause, the sound of shoes, the click of a camera, the irregular scraping of an instrument… this album reminds us how much noise can expand a person’s imagination. The eyes can accurately recognize objects even from a distance. “Oh, that’s him.” “Oh, that’s it.” The perception of the eye is very immediate – my imagination doesn’t grow. However, when we close our eyes and are forced to listen only to the sounds, we sink into a strange space, a mixture of anxiety and excitement. Ghee…Pochan…Cachaka…Pachi — Who the hell is making this sound, what does it look like, and why? Where is this place? I can imagine many different stories from this album.
